trueCall’s technology is already protecting almost 3 million homes in the UK from nuisance and scam phone calls, and over 2 million in the USA. 

trueCall was designed by Steve Smith who has worked in the call centre industry for over 20 years. He has been an advocate for responsible telemarketing within the industry, and has helped to shape the legislation that now controls it. He published research in 2004 that for the first time showed the level of distress that nuisance calls were causing many people. 

In 2005 Steve designed and patented a new approach to blocking unwanted calls, and in 2008 the trueCall box was launched. It proved hugely effective, with independent trials reporting that it blocked over 95% of unwelcome calls. Steve successfully presented the trueCall unit on the BBC TV programme ‘Dragons’ Den’ and was the first entrepreneur to receive offers from all five Dragons! 

trueCall is currently working with 150 Trading Standards teams, and 25 police forces around the country on projects to protect older and vulnerable adults from nuisance calls, and also projects funded by the Department of Culture Media and Sport, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Ministry of Justice in Northern Ireland. trueCall has been working with the National Trading Standards Scams Team since 2015.
